Editor’s note: President Muhammadu Buhari’s ten-day vacation to London for medical reasons caused the rumours that the Nigerian leader is seriously ill.
The health of a 73 year old Buhari was certainly an issue during the last year presidential campaign.
Olalekan Waheed Adigun of the Daily Trust shares his views on who wishes death upon President Buhari death.
HOW FAYOSE PLACED AN “OBITUARY” OF A LIVING PERSON
What started as a big joke suddenly became a reality. In a desperate bid to stop the emergence of President Muhammadu Buhari the heat of the 2015 presidential election, Mr. Ayodele Fayose, the Ekiti state governor, did the unthinkable.
He single-handedly placed an “obituary” of a living person on the front pages of The Punch and The Sun (January 19, 2015). What was his reason for this: “Will you allow history to repeat itself? Enough of state burials.”
These he told Nigerians who listened to him eagerly. Suffice to say that many political analysts described the advert as one of the lowest moments in the run-up to the election. Trust “Prophet” Fayose he did his utmost to make his “prophesies” come to pass. He told us all that Buhari had “advance stage” cancer, even coming up with a “medical report” from Ahmadu Bello Teaching Hospital (I meant the one in Ikare, not ABUTH please)!
NIGER DELTA AVENGERS’ THREAT TO KILL BUHARI
Let us spare the Fayose’s infantile theatrics for a while. Recently, a group that calls itself the Niger Delta Avengers (NDA), threatened to assassinate President Buhari if he goes on with his intention of going to Rivers state on official visit on Thursday 2 June, 2015.
An NDA member reportedly issued a threat to the president on his visit to the volatile region. In a phone monitored on the pirate Radio Biafra, the militants say the president will be signing his death warrant by visiting Ogoniland as scheduled. If the President is visiting the land with a history of oil spills to assess the extent of damage(s) done by multinational oil companies in the region, it still baffles rational minds to know those who really wish the president dead!
I happened to be one of the people who wished the president will call the bluffs of these so-called militants who threatened to assassinate him should he attempt to visit the region.
BUHARI’S CANCELLED VISIT TO OGONI
I was so disappointed to know that the president will later shelve his plans to attend the official launch of the cleanup of Ogoniland. The reason for my disappointed steams from the fact that, as Commander-in-Chief of the Nigerian Armed Forces, the president should not be seen to be cowardly. This was the reason some of us supported him in the first instance. Is there any part of the federation that the president cannot visit? Can the so-called Avengers be more powerful than the Nigerian army? What becomes of the morale of hardworking soldiers under the Joint Task Force (JTF) fighting the militants when his C-in-C is “too afraid” of “assassination threats” from a ragtag group? That also reminds us, why the president made the visit a public announcement when he could have appeared unannounced?
Let us take the argument of these groups that they are indeed fighting a course on behalf of their “offended” ethnic groups. Let us assume for the sake of analysis that the NDA wants to “right the wrongs” meted out on them by the Federal government in the past.
To whose benefit really is the cleanup of Ogoniland when it is finally done?
On getting the news of the cancelled Buhari’s visit to Ogoni, a colleague of mine quickly, in a desperate attempt to attract my attention, told me how he wished to “disappoint” me with the piece of news having barely resumed work that day. “Buhari shouldn’t be afraid of these Niger-Delta Avengers because they are smaller than Boko Haram. Buhari should have gone to launch the cleanup.” I had to agree with him. While agreeing with him, I thought about the what the headlines will be in the online media. “Coward President Buhari Succumbs to Niger-Delta Militants” will be a good one on an anti-Buhari media platform. Is is just about the president not honouring his own visit, or is he just being “bullied” or misadvised?
I remember sometimes last year when late Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe’s son, Chukwuma, was to be buried. The drama was so sensational that, just for some people to justify their arguments of Buhari “hating Igbos”, they won’t mind insulting the late son of the Zik of Africa even in death just because of his friendship with the President. He was buried, Buhari did not attend the ceremony and they were happy! To these ones, as long as Buhari has no ‘footings in the South East’, the party can continue.
If If Buhari had attended the event, the worst that would have happened
On the assassination threats coming from the Avengers is really nothing new. If Buhari had attended the event, the worst that would have happened would have been some pockets of protests here and there just to “show the world how unpopular Buhari’s administration is.” Their own problem is that they see it as a taboo that a Fulani man (a tribe they told the world hates them) is the one to commence the cleaning up of the oil spills in “Biafra land” a feat “our son” could not achieve in several years in power. Does it surprise anyone that as Buhari was planning to launch Ogoniland’s cleanup brought “our son” back home from his “hiding spot”?Buhari had attended the event, the worst that would have happened

MBAKA’S PREDICTION ON BUHARI’S ASSASSINATION
Earlier this year, the fiery Enugu Catholic priest and Founder, Adoration Ministry, Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka, alleged that there were plans by unnamed people to assassinate President Muhammadu Buhari. According to the clergyman, many people were plotting to kill the President because of what he described as his campaign against corruption, saying, “I am not a sycophant, but I want to tell you that so far, God is happy and he, who God has blessed, no one can curse. Many people are planning to kill Buhari – there are many plans on how to eliminate his life so that corruption will continue, so that embezzlement will continue.”
When Mbaka made this statement, the so-called NDA that threatened to assassinate Buhari was still in incubation. They were waiting to see whether some of their paymasters, like Sambo Dasuki will be granted a leave to travel abroad for “medical treatments” or granted bail on his present corruption charges. The question some of us ask ourselves is whether Dasuki comes from Niger-Delta that these ones are avenging!
The forces that have been battling the president before his elections are not giving up the fight as one may have thought. For these once, they will prefer a dead man occupying Aso Rock than for Buhari to withdraw from them their daily bread!

Search giant Google has rolled out an interesting tool, which will help users in finding their lost smartphone(s). To use the feature, users just need to type 'I lost my phone' on Google . The search query will bring up a special page which includes the record of all the devices that they have. Users then just need to click on the device they think have been lost.
Along with this, users can also choose to perform actions such as showing the location of the device on the map, or even locking the device's screen remotely from the page itself.
The feature is only limited to Android devices. In case you misplace your iPhone, it will tell you to use 'Find my
iPhone ,' which is a similar service offered by Apple for ios devices.
Even then, Google has iPhone users covered. It will help users lock their Google accounts to protect their privacy.
Apart from this, the page also allows easy access to a user's account hub, which shows data and personal preferences of the user. Users just need to say 'Ok Google , Show me my account,' and they will be taken to the hub to find the information.

China leads resistance to India joining nuclear export club NSG
VIENNA: China is leading opposition to a push by the United States and other major powers for India to join the main club of countries controlling access to sensitive nuclear technology, diplomats said on Thursday as the group discussed India's membership bid.
Other countries opposing
Indian membership of the Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG) include New Zealand, Ireland, Turkey, South Africa and Austria, diplomats said.
The 48-nation NSG aims to prevent the proliferation of nuclear weapons by restricting the sale of items that can be used to make those arms.
India already enjoys most of the benefits of membership under a 2008 exemption to NSG rules granted to support its nuclear cooperation deal with Washington, even though India has developed atomic weapons and never signed the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), the main global arms control pact.
Opponents argue that granting it membership would further undermine efforts to prevent proliferation. It would also infuriate
Pakistan, which responded to India's membership bid with one of its own and has the backing of its close ally China.
"By bringing India on board, it's a slap in the face of the entire non-proliferation regime," a diplomatic source from one of a handful of countries resisting India's push said on condition of anonymity.
A decision on Indian membership is not expected before an NSG plenary meeting in Seoul on June 20, but diplomats said Washington had been pressuring hold-outs, and Thursday's closed-door meeting was a chance to see how strong opposition is.
US secretary of state John Kerry wrote to members asking them "not to block consensus on Indian admission to the NSG" in a letter seen by Reuters and dated Friday.
China, however, showed no sign of backing down from its opposition to India joining
unless Pakistan becomes a member .
That would be unacceptable to many, given Pakistan's track record — the father of its nuclear weapons programme sold nuclear secrets to countries including North Korea and Iran.
"China, if anything, is hardening (its position)," another diplomat said.
Most of the hold-outs oppose the idea of admitting a non-NPT state such as India and argue that if it is to be admitted, it should be under criteria that apply equally to all states rather than under a "tailor-made" solution for a US ally.
Mexico's president said on Wednesday his country supports India's membership bid, but one Vienna-based diplomat said it still opposed the idea of it joining under conditions that did not apply equally to all.

2. 2,500 Twitter accounts linked to adult websites
Cybersecurity leader Symantec recently revealed that more than 2,500 Twitter accounts have been compromised and are tweeting links to adult dating and sex websites. The attackers changed the profile photo and the basic information of the accounts to promote adult sites. The breach affected a number of high-profile accounts including ones belonging to the band Chromeo, a journalist working for The Telegraph, stand-up comedian Azeem Banatwala, Houston Texans wide receiver Cecil Shorts III and the late New York Times reporter David Carr.
3. 117 million LinkedIn users exposed
Last month, LinkedIn confirmed a breach that happened in 2012, which led to more than 100 million of its users' passwords being compromised. In an email sent out to all its members, LinkedIn admitted that the massive data breach in 2012 may result in millions of passwords being leaked to the internet. The data breach involved cyber theft of email addresses, hashed passwords and LinkedIn member IDs (an internal identifier LinkedIn assigns to each member profile) from 2012.
4. IRCTC 'hack'
India's largest e-commerce website IRCTC too came in the news recently when the reports surfaced of the website being hacked. Data of around 10 million customers was feared to have been stolen from the server of the e-ticketing portal. However, IRCTC denied reports of the hack and issued an official statement for the same. But a Bengaluru-based cyber-security startup, Fallible, provided details on how exactly the data leak can easily happen on the IRCTC website.
5. Flipkart CEO Binny Bansal's email 'hack'
CEO of India's biggest e-commerce website Flipkart Binny Bansal's official email account was hacked and two mails were sent from it to the company's CFO asking to transfer $80,000. It was later found that the account was not hacked but spoofed. A spoofed email does not originate from the real source but from a different source falsifying the name and address with an ulterior motive.

25 Indian students asked to leave US university
WASHINGTON: At least 25 Indian students in their first semester of computer sciences programme at Western Kentucky University have been asked to return to India or find placement in other schools, because they did not meet the admission standards of the varsity, The New York Times said on Tuesday as Prime Minister Narendra Modi was on a US visit.
Some 60 Indian students were enrolled for the programme in January this year and the university was said to have used international recruiters to enroll them.
James Gary, the chairman of Western Kentucky's computer science programme, told the Times that "almost 40" of the students did not meet the requirements of their admissions, even though they were offered remedial help by the university.
This means that 35 students may be allowed to continue while 25 "must leave", the newspaper said.
Gary said permitting the students to continue in the programme would "be throwing good money after bad" because they were unable to write computer programmes, a necessary part of the curriculum and a skill that US schools teach to undergraduates.
"If they come out of here without the ability to write programmes, that's embarrassing to my department," Gary said, explaining why the university could not permit them to continue.
The students had been admitted after a recruitment campaign in India where the recruiters had run advertisements offering "spot admission" to the university, as well as tuition discounts.
The university Senate has now endorsed a resolution expressing concern about the recruitment campaign which was part of the university's efforts to lift enrollment and revenue in the face of deep state budget cuts, the newspaper said.
The university in a statement said it had altered its international recruitment efforts in India. The school will also send members of the computer science faculty to India to meet with students before offers of admission are made in the future.
The chairman of the Indian Student Association at Western Kentucky University, Aditya Sharma, has expressed concern for the students who have been asked to leave.
"I definitely feel badly for these students," said Sharma, a graduate student in public health administration. "They've come so far. They've invested money into it."
But he admitted that some of the students had adopted what he called a "casual" approach to their studies. "They could not meet their GPA (grade point average), so the university had to take this decision."
Prime Minister Modi is on a three-day visit to the US, where he will hold bilateral talks with US President Barack Obama and also give an address to the US Congress.

The effects of the Scrapped PUME on 2016/2017 JAMBITES - Agboja David
Most Nigerians, especially students, know how slim the probability of gaining admission into tertiary institutions has been, for more than a decade now, university aspirants face numerous set back when they seek admission into Higher institutions, as a result of this set back, not every secondary school graduates are willing further their Education in the university. But a very good number keep competing to obtain a space, thus making more intense the competition, and making less the probability of each being admitted.
The federal government, through the ministry of education and it related parastatals of recent scrapped the post university matriculation exam PUME. In what the ministry saw as a positive step, in bringing to an end the abnormal set backs faced by jambites yearly, which results in very minimal in terms of admitted candidates compared to those excluded, coupled with a chain of pre-admission processes, accompanied with the high cost of this processes. To reduce stress they made a move in the scrap of PUME, indeed a welcome development. But it will be more of detriment to 2016/2017 jambites, if this decision is to take effect in the 2016/2017 admission process.
In this article I highlight reasons why this, if implemented into the admission requirements and procedure of the 2016/2017 session, will bring down sky scrapper hopes built by millions of Nigerian youths seeking admission into tertiary institutions, despite the frustrating set back posed by JAMB during the exam. 2016/2017 session.
In the light of this many aspirants where Happy to learn of the scrapping of PUME. For another the news is coming as a shock, surprised that they just couldn't believe their ears, while few are just appalled and feel hit by the trailer and amongst this very unfortunate-an old wound is almost reoccurring.
It is in the voice of those tears filled eyes that I pen down what I see as the cause/reason for their very pain.
Before I go into details the reasons, why the immediate implementation of the decision could not favour some, let me wave into a reason why even those that exceeded the cut-off may still have reasons to worry.
If you scored 180+ and did not choose Your state university or any other university within your catchment area(Geo-political zone), then the probability of you gaining admission is very slim. Worst if you're aspiring for a highly competitive course or an over subscribed university. On this in particular, I will not go further than that.
I bring forward, very possible reasons why the immediate implementation of the new JAMB policy will not favour most university aspirant.
ISSUES OF CATCHMENT AREA: Admission slot will be very narrow for candidates that did not choose their states' universities and universities within their catchment area, as catchment area is a part of the considerations put into the offering of admission into Nigerian Universities(both state and federal universities). As it amounts for 40% of the admission quota.
I strongly believe that if this policy was reached before the registration, during or immediately after the 2016 JAMB examination, most candidates would have had a rethink as regards their choices of Universities.
UNWILLFUL REDISTRIBUTION:
there is going to be a possible redistribution of candidates, where some candidates would be Transferred to another school, other than their intended school of choice, and this is likely to include private universities, federal polytechnics, and federal universities. With the current hardship, Imagine the sons and daughters of average civil servants, redistributed from low cost federal universities of there choice, to the very high cost of private Nigerian Universities like Babcock university, Afe babalola university, Bowen university and their likes, where you're required to pay huge amount of cash, ranging from hundreds of thousand to millions of naira.
The children of the poor redistributed to this universities would be faced with one option, 'retreat'! A few may decide to venture into it with hope that, "E go better" but they seldom succeed this hopes, as most often they drop out, due to incapacitated finances to carry them through to the end of their studies in those private universities.
CUT OFF MARK
Button cut off is 180, meaning no tertiary institution is to go below 180 but may go above if so wished by the university. Prior to this you can imagine what the likes of UNILAG whom had previously raised her cut-off mark at 250, last year before she was pressured to reverse it.
Putting into considerations the unlucky students whom are at the more negative, side of this policy. I put forward this question.
What then happens to a reasonable in terms of population scored below 180?
Bare in mind that the 2016/2017 JAMB examination suffered a big blow, making victims of several candidates scoring way below their preparations and expectations.
Before the exam. In my personal definition I say luck is when preparations meets expectations. But the 2016/2017 JAMB examination brought me back to reality. As students even amongst my friends and previous secondary school mates where identified with sorry grades like 100s,120s,140s and 160s. Regardless of previous records and their academic differences, this are pains of which must have been lessened by the decision of most affected candidates to patronise College of educations and Polytechnics.
But with the current policy been put forward by JAMB, the little hope the unlucky candidates clings on is no more.
The above are highly negative effects the immediate implementation of the scrapping of PUME on 2016 jambites.
MY PLEA:
In other to avoid the agony and frustration this may bring on Nigerian universities aspirants. And a possible revolt by the victims. I Humble suggest the federal government through the ministry of education, uphold the brilliant policy but delay it's implementation for the next academic session.
Thanks

Why Some Universities Do Not Accept Second Choice Candidates For Post UTME/Admission
In our recent update, We have a listing of universities that accept 2nd choice candidates for post UTME/admission. This particular post is to explain why some universities do not accept second choice. Carefully read and be guided to help other students in choice making.
See This: List Of Universities That Accept 2nd Choice Candidates
REASONS SOME UNIVERSITIES DO NOT ACCEPT SECOND CHOICE
1. Most Federal Universities only consider candidates who chose them as MOST PREFERRED, If you select a Federal University as your SECOND MOST PREFERRED, you are simply saying, “I just need something to fill-in the empty space” , chance are, you will NEVER make it, unless they have new courses that are not accredited yet, then they might consider using you to experiment on the course. #funny huh?
2. Depending on the population that chose a particular school as first choice, the school may decide not to invite 2nd choice candidates in other to be able to handle the teeming population of applicants. For instance, schools like UNILAG, ABU, UNIZIK, UNILORIN, UI, etc often have many applicants per year.
3. It is also possible that the school is interested in the best students, and as such will respect those who put them to high esteem by making them their first choice.
From experience and Statistics, we have discovered that majority of candidates admitted into Federal Universities in Nigeria are those who select the institution as their 1st Choice.
